Who is our Sister City?
Inverell has a 47 year sister city relationship with Tulare (pronounced "too-lair-ee"), California.
When did the Sister City movement begin?
Shortly after World War II the Sister City movement began. The main goal was to develop, between the cities all over the world, a network of communication that would reduce conflict and isolation among the nations. Many cities in Australia, nearly 470, have a Sister City on the other side of the world.

What are some of the benifits of having a Sister City?
The Sister City relationship between Inverell and Tulare has provided the opportunity for people within these towns to learn of the different culture, customs and everyday workings of each community. Many great friendships have been formed as a result of personal exchanges and by correspondence. Tulare hosts an International Expo each year. This provides great opportunities between the two centres and to show Inverell to people from all over the world.
More about our Sister City, Tulare.
Tulare was founded in 1872 by the Southern Pacific Railroad. The early years were difficult as the town burnt down and was rebuilt three times in its first 14 years. Tulare is situated in the Central San Joaquin Valley, 45 miles south of Fresno and 60 miles north of Bakersfield. To the east are the magnificant Sierra Nevada Mountains and the California coastline to the west. Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay are less than a 4 hour drive away. The location of Tulare is one of the towns best assets. Tulare combines the best of both worlds - small town service and big city self-sufficiency with a wide variety of goods, services and shopping facilities. In the small town atmosphere retailers get to know their customers and treat them as important individuals. Down town Tulare has one of the largest craft stores in the valley, with a nail salon, supplies, arts, crafts, balloons, hand made clothing and a coffee shop. In addition there are well known retailers such as Kmart, and Walmart.
According to the United States Census Bureau, Tulare's population in 2013 was 61,170 citizens. Tulare's covers an area of 21 sq miles.
World Ag Expo
World Ag Expo is the world's largest annual agricultural exposition. More than 1,400 exhibitors display the latest in farm equipment, communications and technology on 2.6 million square feet of exhibit space.
