    Inverell is a thriving commercial and service centre set in a diverse farming, grazing and mining area. The CBD is an aesthetically pleasing, friendly and free flowing streetscape with roundabouts displaying attractive flower beds and classic central lighting.

    Inverell boasts superior shopping facilities with chainstores such as Coles, Woolworths, IGA supermarkets, Crazy Clarks, Harvey Norman, KFC, Subway, Best n Less, Target, Rivers, Retravision, Mitre 10, Eagle Boys and McDonalds, all in the central business district. Inverell offers every facet of a major shopping centre and caters to a shopping population of about 60,000 drawn from a wide area around Inverell and over the Queensland border. With inviting cafes, speciality boutiques, friendly courteous service and excellent product variety, Inverell is a great place to shop, play and stay.

    Inverell also has some unique facilities and businesses, such as the Gem Centre. The Gem Centre is located in the Central Business District and is a great centre to see Inverell's fine sapphires first hand. Displays of cutting, polishing and facetting of stones are happily shown to the visitor. Fine examples of jewellery are on display, incorporating the local Sapphire. There is gold and silver jewellery on display to purchase, and lapidary equipment is available.

    There is a growing manufacturing base in Inverell with a number of metal and sheet metal fabricators, cabinet makers, machine shops, electronics, agricultural and machinery manufacturers selling their products here and overseas. Northwest Laser Cutting has shown that the light manufacturing industry in Inverell is advancing with the laser cutter, which gives a more refined, quicker and cleaner way of cutting all manner of materials from stainless steel, brass, copper, aluminium, wood and rubber. Supercoat Petcare Pty Ltd is another local company producing pet food for the Australian market.

    Bindaree Beef Pty Limited is a locally owned company thriving in Inverell, being one of the largest processors in NSW and a prominient leader in the Meat Industry. The Inverell plant has a capacity of approximately 1,000 head per day and process predominantly grass-fed steers with a percentage of grain-finished cattle processed for North Asian Markets. Binadaree Beef is one of Inverell's largest employers and has recently secured long term contracts with major Supermarket chains. This prosperous business has also been ranked in the Top 25 Red Meat Processors in Australia since 1996.

    Inverell is serviced by a daily air service connection to Sydney and Newcastle, and there is an extensive network of road transport operators. Thanks to Inverell's central position savings can be made in transport costs through lower average charges.

    Big W Comes to Inverell
    Big W will be opening its doors to Inverell customers in 2010. The feasibility study is now complete and draft plans will be presented to council next month. The development will create over 100 new jobs and will not result in car park loss but we will be continuing to consult with the community as development proceeds.


    Growing Inverell Program

    Showcasing Inverell's finest business and service sectors, Inverell on Display was held 21 & 22 April, 2007 at the Inverell Racecourse. Over 6,000 people attended the event, and the organising Committee are to be commended for their efforts.

    2007 Careers Expo
    Was held at the Inverell Town Hall on 26 July, 2007, the Careers Expo provided an excellent opportunity for students seeking Careers information. The participating businesses showcased the employment initiatives and opportunities available for young people within the Inverell area. The Careers Expo was a great success thanks to all the community and businesses for their support.     State & Regional Development Conference 2006
    Inverell hosted the 2006 State & Regional Development Conference, held on 29, 30 & 31 October. The three-day conference was a great opportunity to showcase Inverell to delegates from throughout New South Wales. Approximately 160 delegates attended.

    Home Hosting
    The Inverell Home Hosting initiative got off to a buoyant start with a number of visitors being placed for the very successful "Opera in the Paddock" event. The Home Hosting Register assists in overcoming the accommodation difficulties that are experienced when a large event is held in Inverell.
