    Inverell is scenically situated on the Macintyre River, with a population of 12,000 in the town and 17,500 within the Shire Area.

    Located on the Gwydir Highway on the western edge of the New England Tablelands. Inverell is very lucky to have a pleasant climate, with warm summers in mid January reaching average highs of 30 Degress Celcus and mild winters in June with average highs of 17 Degress Celcius and average lows of 0.6 Degress Celcus. We may have cold mornings in the winter, but the days warm up to be quite nice as a rule.

    Inverell is 489km South West of Brisbane and 675km North West of Sydney.

    Travellers can arrive in Inverell by one of the many coach services travelling to Inverell, including CountryLink,and McCafferty's.

    Inverell is a mixed farming district, where the main crops are wheat, oats, barley, grain, sorghum and oilseed crops. Sheep & cattle graze mostly on natural pastures, supplemented with lucerne and forage crops.

    If you have never visited the district, we are sure you will be very pleasantly surprised at the attractions and services the area has to offer the visitor and because of this visitors return time and time again. The Inverell District boasts many attractions that delight both the visitors and locals alike.

    The Inverell business centre is renowned for one of the best shopping centres in country New South Wales, with some stores trading seven days per week. All facilities are available to the visitor with many different and varied shops to visit.

    The Inverell Visitors Centre is located in Campbell Street, Inverell. The Centre is open seven days per week: Monday to Friday: 9am to 5pm. Saturday & Sunday: 9am - 1pm.

    The Centre has a huge photographic display together with many brochures on the Local District spreading out to all of N.S.W. and Queensland. Video viewing is available and the Centre boasts a Mining Museum, showing the District's proud mining history. There are not only local gems that are on display, but beautiful specimens from around the world. You will be surprised at what comes out of the ground! Some local produce is available together with a wide collection of souvenirs.

    Telstra Country Wide Sapphire City Festival

    Held in October every year. In the past, it has featured a free concert Jazz in the Park with world famous artist James Morrison, fireworks, street parade plus many other attractions.
