The Salvation Army
The Salvation Army is an international movement, and an evangelical branch of the universal Christain Church. This organisation meets the current needs of the Australian Community. In the absence of discrimination, they offer practical and spiritual help to assist men, women and children put their lives back together during times of adversity, enabling them to live their life to the fullest potential. The Salvation Army conducts the annual 'Red Shield Appeal' throughout Australia. Within the Inverell Shire the Salvation Army operates the 'Red Shield Community Centre' at 45 Otho Street, Inverell, and provides community services in a pleasant, clean and friendly environment. Vinnies has over 273 shops throughout Australia, 113 hostels, aged services and refuges and is run by over 20,000 volunteers. Department of Veterans' Affairs
The Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) is responsible for the granting of pensions, allowances, and they also provide treatment and other benefits to veterans. The DVA provides administration support to the Repatriation Commission in discharging its responsibilities to veterans. Their 'Service-Our Heritage Commemoration Program' and the Defence Service Homes Actprovides subsidised loans for housing and housing-related benefits. |

The St Johns Ambulance Service
The St Johns Ambulance Service has a station in Inverell located at 172 Otho Street, Inverell, and is responsible for providing a high standard of emergency health services to Inverell and district. The service is one which moves injured and ill patients quickly and safely. Computer systems monitor all '000' calls, while trained and experienced officers immediately assess the injury or illness, the location of the patient, and the degree of urgency. All relevant information is then relayed to the nearest Ambulance Station. The Ambulance Service provides for a challenging and rewarding career, including three long years of intensive, up-to-date training. NSW Police Service
The NSW Police Service is one of the oldest and largest police organsations in the english speaking world, with over 13,300 officers who operate on land, on sea and in the air. The NSW Police Service is a non-profit statutory authority funded by the NSW Government, operating throughout over 500 different Stations in NSW. Just some of the services they provide include: preventing, detecting and investigating crime; monitoring and promoting road safety; maintaining social order; performing and coordinating emergency and rescue operations; traffic control; communications; intelligence analysis; anti-terroist negotiations; and much, much more. NSW Fire Brigade
The NSW Fire Brigade has been in existence since 1884 and has served and protected NSW well. The local Inverell Station is located at 59 Evans Street, Inverell, and can be contacted on 02) 67210 015. The Fire Brigade works with the community, government and industry in providing a 24 hour a day, 7 day a week service to prevent and respond to fires, hazardous material incidents, rescues, emergencies, along with the protection and preservation of life, property and the environment. Overall it is reported they save 80% of all property structure involved in incidents for which they attend. They are also involved in reducing bush fire hazards, inspecting buildings for fire safety, educating the community, providing natural disaster response, emergency information and co-operating with police, ambulance, the Rural Fire Service, and SES workers to provide the community with effective emergency services. |

| NSW Rural Fire Service
On 1 September 1997, The NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) was established by an Act of Parliament, the Rural Fires Act, 1997. The RFS is the formal successor of an organisation that has been around for 100 years and is most popularly known as the NSW Bush Fire Brigades. The RFS is responsible for fire suppression and prevention activities in over 90 per cent of the State. They work closely with the NSW Fire Brigades, the National Parks and Wildlife Service and State Forests who, between them, cover about 10 per cent of the State. The RFS is the designated combat agency for all fires occurring in its districts, this includes structural firefighting in more than 1,200 towns and villages.

State Emergency Services
The State Emergency Services is an organisation operated entirely by volunteers, dedicated to assisting the community. With over 240 units and over 8,000 volunteer members, their major responsibility is to provide emergency reponse services during times of flood or storm, and they are an invaluable resource supporting the other full time emergency service organisations. In rural areas, such as Inverell, the SES are also involved in road accident rescues, bush search and rescues and many other duties. Their volunteers are well trained and ready to assist at a moments notice in often difficult and dangerous situations. |

Should you have any questions in relation to how to manage a probelm relating to the illicit use of drugs, you should contact your local doctor and discuss the problem with them or alternatively contact the Community Health Centre of the New England Area Health Service and speak to the Drug and Alcohol Counsellor. If you, or someone close to you, are trying to find assistance in giving up substance abuse, a useful contact point is the Brain and Behaviour Centre at Westmead, who run a number of programs. The Brain and Behaviour Centre can be contacted on 9633 4077.
